One line summary Checking that an image collection digitised over 18 months by 4 separate suppliers consistently conform to specification
Detailed description Over time:
  • check that each supplier has produced images which conform to the specification
  • check that post-processing has been applied consistently (potential further problem - inconsistency in the source material - non-uniform photographs differ significantly from each other)
  • check that metadata fields in the image are populated - identifiers, correct correlation to physical properties

    Between suppliers:
  • check that each supplier has conformed to the specification (resolution, bit-depth, colour-space, etc.)
  • check that post-processing has been performed consistently - use of same processes, same bounds for applying e.g. level balance
  • check that metadata fields in the image are populated - identifiers, correct correlation to physical properties

Possible approaches
  • Run JHOVE/FITS on all images and check specific technical fields against specification.
  • Run Java image library to extract image properties and compare.
