This page provides a quick checklist of preparation items to consider before joining us for an AQuA event. Participation in mashup activities is mandatory: observers are not allowed!
- Participation in mashup activities is mandatory: observers are not allowed! So its important to consider what role you would like to play at the event. There are 2 options, and its worth noting that you can wear more than one hat if so desired:
- Collection owner: you will bring with you a digital collection sample and champion it throughout the event. We will team you up with other experts to develop solutions for your content
- Techie: you will come armed with your best coding, scripting and command line skills and will be teamed up with collection owners who need your help
- If you are playing the part of a collection owner, you will need to bring with you a collection sample:
- Samples should ideally be between 10 and 10000 items
- Any variety of digital collection is of interest although we're particularly interested in digitised content
- If you are aware of particular quality issues in your collection (there are some examples here
), even better! Hopefully we can detect and solve your problems for you
- If you bring broken content, make sure you bring some non-broken examples as well
- Bring your content on an external hard drive or memory stick to the event
- Prepare a 2 minute lightning talk on your collection, describing its key characteristics and highlighting the QA challenges you are interested in. We will explore, define and articulate some of these quality/preservation issues more deeply during the AQuA events
- If *possible*, clear any IPR issues for your sample and we will make it available via the OPF website so that tool developers have test data they can work with. This is really useful!
- AQuA results will be captured on the Open Planets Foundation git repository and wiki. If you want you can sign up for these in advance
.
- Remember to bring your laptop!
- Dress code: casual. We're all friends here
