Migration by emulation

Migration by emulation is using an emulator to run a migration tool that is only available in an obsolete computing environment. In a fully managed digital archive, this would not be required, but archives often receive donations of material for example from the personal archives of famous or important people, which may not have been actively managed and so could include files that are no longer accessible. Via an emulation of an old hardware platform, it may be possible to run old software which can read the file, and transform it to another format which is more accessible with today's tools.

In PLANETS the UVC and Dioscuri are wrapped so they can be used for migration by emulation in the PLANETS Testbed.
